TEAM MANTRA
In a time of transition, the need of the hour was to safeguard the simple and sustainable way of Ladakhi life. It was to remember that Ladakh will always be interwoven with its ancient tradition and culture, which has been uniting the roots and routes of this land eternally. It was to remember that the rugged realism of a land like Ladakh, lay in its wilderness and that to find it, one must travel far beyond the beaten path.
Resilient and passionate, the people who call the land of high passes their home, created Mantra, striving to preserve the culture and heritage of Ladakh by promoting responsible travel, creating community spaces and curating indigenous experiences.
JOURNEY WITH MANTRA
With Mantra, you will find yourself wrapped up in a sleeping bag under the star studded skies of Zanskar Valley, pulling your wooly caps over your ears in the freezing temperatures and discussing both, the shortcomings of modernisation and the absolute thrill of being in a land as enduring and timeless as Ladakh.
We find inspiration in trekking to remote hermitages during the depth of icy winter and experiencing life with the native nomads.
We encourage choosing locally-sourced fabric in place of consumeristic goods in the market.
We believe that a simple interaction with the monks of Ladakh can reveal, that while they brim with wisps of wisdom, they too are fond of revelling in the little reveries of life.
An unending alliance will be built, with the land and with us, one that will ensure your return, time and again. Together, our journeys will instil trust, which is essential if we are going to be travel companions in the Tibetan Plateau.
“No matter how far you travel or how much education you gain, you are nothing if you don’t know your roots.”
– Jigmet Wangchuk; Founder, explorer and traveller.
